Mission

mission

Rimadesio produces systems for sub-dividing environments and for the architectural definition of internal spaces. Doors, sliding panels, shelving units, walk-in wardrobes and a collection of complementary furniture: an offer which is constantly increasing in size and which is forever evolving its style. Linear and concrete designs wherein the simplicity of a concept is expressed through an exceptional level of technical competence. Highly-stylised objects, made to guarantee a superb look, but which still lend themselves to daily l ife, to a natural use that corresponds to the concept of contemporary living advanced by the company.

Glass, which is a pure and ecological material, plays the most important part in the collection. All work on it is carried out entirely in the company's production department, this being possible as a result of a technical know-how gained over 50 years' experience in this field.

Rimadesio' s aim is to continue to develop its own design culture and production technology in order to be able to offer functionally innovative ideas which are exclusive from an aesthetic point of view and can ensure maximum reliability over time.

Timeline

  • culture 56>66

    culture 56 > 66
Rimadesio was founded in 1956 by Francesco Malberti and Luigi Riboldi.
The company started out under the name of Rima Vetraria and its headquarters were in Desio, in the Milan northern area. Desio is situated in the heart of Brianza: a clearly defined area in Lombardy that was getting ready to become a leader in the exceptional industrial and economic boom that was to take place a few years later.
The two-part name Rimadesio-vetro has been present from the very start: at the beginning the company dedicated its work to flat panes of glass, working for other furniture companies.
A large part of the production process was carried out by hand: engravings, gold-leaf applications and colouring were all done by hand, one at a time.
These working methods were matched by a great desire to experiment and a huge life-force. During this period the company built up its own technological know-how, and expanded its range of materials to include wood and plexiglass.

  • surfaces 66>76

    surfaces 66 > 76
One of the main uses of glass is for mirrors and these account for an important part of the company’s output. The range is extremely wide: on the one hand, there are wall mirrors which are available in a variety of designs, on the other hand, since 1983 there have been the “Specchi d’autore”, “Writers’ mirrors”, signed by famous people such as Lucio Del Pezzo, Ugo Nespolo, Franco Grignani, Concetto Pozzati, Sergio Borrini, Lucia Pescador and Emilio Tadini.
Serigraphy is the technique mainly used for these types of mirrors; Rimadesio’s technicians are extremely careful and precise. But mirrors became true objects of design in their own right, as in the case of the Club collection.
The Venus mirror, presented in 1969, became a best-seller and was produced until 1985.

  • Project 76>86

    project 76 > 86
Rimadesio’s interest in the architectural defining of environments, a characteristic of the entire current collection, started at the end of the seventies when the first real modular system was produced by the company.
Modulo, a mirrored and accessorised partitioning wall, designed by Martino Perego, sums up in itself all the main characteristics of Rimadesio products: highly versatile composition, style, and careful attention paid to function and reliability.
Strip, a project for container units which can be put together in a variety of ways, came along to complete Modulo and the two together represented a new horizon for the company.
Since 1980 Rimadesio has offered, keeping track with its past, a collection of furniture in curved glass.
Shelving units, tables and complementary furniture with amazing shapes and signed by prestigious designers like Carlo Bartoli reveal in full the creative and technological potential of the company.

  • Systems 92 > 97

    systems 92 > 97
A new product was added to the Rimadesio collection in 1992: it was Siparium, a system of sliding partition walls, designed by Giuseppe Bavuso.
It was the first step forward in defining a new collection that reflected a dynamic conception of home spaces. These systems guarantee you the freedom to choose the layout of home spaces, to make them bigger or smaller, but where light remains of utmost importance.
Aluminium, thanks to extrusion technology, is an ideal material for frames and rails made according to a high level of mechanical precision, and it can combine exceptional practicality with maximum reliability.
Siparium was the first sliding panels system for the home made of glass and aluminium to be made to measure, starting from the measurements of the wall. It is a fine example of the high level of productive ability reached by the company.

  • Innovation 98>02

    innovation 98 > 02
Experimentation is a constant factor in Rimadesio’s approach to production. In 1998 the Zenit system was proposed as a solution for living area and wardrobe furnishings, considering the exceptionally versatile features of its composite grid.
The company concomitantly pursues its exploration of the typological sector of furnishing accessories by introducing new proposals such as the Flat Table System, which has been designed to expand in time with an exceptional size range, and the bookcase Sixty.
Every new proposal joins the collection with perfect stylistic consistency, following that which is today defined as ‘Rimadesio aesthetic’ with its typical essential and rigorous design.

  • Horizons 04>07

    horizons 04 > 07
Rimadesio reached an important landmark in its history in 2006: its fiftieth anniversary since its founding. the peak of the entire corporate track. It converges everything that Rimadesio represents in terms of philosophy and production values. The typological expansion of the collection expresses a complete vision of interiors through solutions that develop different stylistic interpretations both in the domestic framework and in professional spaces.
A new company flagship store was opened up: an area of 1,200 square metres where, not only is the entire collection exhibited, but this area is also mainly perceived as a meeting place to make all of Rimadesio quality known.
Discussing ideas with designers is an important element for Rimadesio: the company periodically organises real training courses. The company flagship store in Giussano is equipped with multi-media rooms for this purpose, in order to teach the technical qualities of its constantly evolving collection in the best way possible.

  • interiors 08>010

    interiors 08 > 010
Ideal stylistic and functional integration of furnishing systems and interior architecture becomes the main guideline of Rimadesio research.
Abacus and Abacus living, two projects that respectively centred on the walk-in closet and on the living area in which painted glass plays the absolute protagonist, were presented between 2008 and 2009.
At the same time the company reveals its practical concern for the ecological features of products by introducing the exclusive Ecolorsystem glass collection, which includes 30 painted shades produced solely with water-based paints to guarantee minimal environmental impact.
The year 2010 witnesses the debut of Moon, the company’s ultimate proposal for internal doors. The project, which possesses powerful innovative content, is perfectly coplanar to the walls and can be installed with either a push or pull direction.

  • Rimadesio - Manta - Stripe

    complete 011 > 012
The design process of the collection further expands its attention towards the living area, by exploring new solutions for the interior design.
In 2011 Rimadesio introduced Manta, the modular system for tables, providing different structural compositions and with a series of counter tops of different shapes and materials.
Stripe, introduced in 2012, is the sliding door system, allowing a new way of interpreting internal spaces, through the characterization given by the horizontal crosspieces.

  • Rimadesio - Cover

    tecnology 013
Technological innovation, design research, ecological awareness: Rimadesio provides its vision of the Italian design through projects to divide and define environments.
In 2013 Rimadesio presents Cover, a system designed to solve all the space requirements for the contemporary living: from the living area to the walk-in closet, up to professional workspace. Cover is defined on the idea of making the cabinet doors the only structural element, where to fix the accessories, without any extra connection to the walls. It is a system of single-sided hinged glass doors with innovative functionality, which separates the space by creating environments with specific functions and, at the same time, by providing a series of equipped niches.

  • Rimadesio - Cover

    design 013 > 014
The definition of the Rimadesio style has been achieved with the considerable know-how in the processing of glass and aluminum, the two company's raw materials.
Wind was born in 2013, the archetype of the bookcase with the new Rimadesio interpretation: a modular system combining aesthetic lightness and technological innovation. The focus of the project, entirely in aluminum, is represented by the union of extruded shelves and die-cast uprights, in central and terminal version, which with their exclusive design define the aesthetic of the system. A highly important project which was awarded by the 'Red Dot Award 2015' prize in the category 'Living rooms and bedrooms'.
In 2014, with Alambra, Rimadesio offers a contemporary reinterpretation of classic urniture such as sideboards, glass cabinets and drawer units. A collection characterized by the particular aluminium structure, with an exclusive design for the details, like the opening mechanisms and equipped with a LED lighting system integrated into the shelves. An offer in various sizes and with different technical equipments.

  • Rimadesio - Cover

    Sustanaibility and minimalism 015
The production record with clean energy in 2015 (1.06 million kWh), for a total of 5.2 million since 2008; 700 tons of CO2 saved for the environment only this year, for a total of 3,400 not issued since the introduction of the first photovoltaic system. The well established sustainable approach has led the company to invest again in photovoltaics, with the construction of a third plant with solar panels, with a total annual production estimated at 1.4 million kWh, and with a new system of energy accumulation at industrial level.
A conception of wellbeing which is the result of the raw materials selection: glass and aluminum, primary materials, environmentally friendly and infinitely recyclable. Proposals expressing elegance, functionality and care for the environment, reflecting a green approach, present in all Rimadesio activities.
In 2015 Rimadesio introduces Long Island, a table with an exclusive style, inspired by elements of the rationalist design. A proposal with a strong personality, granting perfect integration with all the sliding systems and the complements collection.
